Flower Rig
So when I did a couple test renders of flowers a month or so ago, I realized that I would need to give the flowers some subtle movement in order to breathe some more life into the piece. I first experimented with blend shapes at the suggestion of one of my instructors but that didn't turn out so well and I kind of forgot about animating the flowers for a while. I was trying to avoid rigging them because I remember rigging to be a giant pain in the @$$ but just this week I had to rig a character for work and I did a pretty decent job at it, if I do say so myself.
So I spent today rigging one of my flowers. Below is the test render and the playblast. For some reason the playblast has that stuttering petal in the back but it renders fine.

Animatic
This is my first version of my animatic. I still think its missing something but I think I'm headed in the right direction.
The entire piece takes place within a post-apocalyptic Grand Central Terminal so try to imagine the ruins of Grand Central covered in plant-life.

BABYLON
I'm starting this blog to keep track of my production process while creating my thesis, which is a 3D animated short.
My piece explores the concept of what would happen to nature and to architectural surroundings should human disappear. Set within a post-apocalyptic environment, it juxtaposes the beauty of nature with the decaying remains of a familiar architectural environment.
